Covid-19 Policy

Last Update: June 22, 2020

Like all businesses across the country, Ideas for Independent Living Inc. is actively monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and taking precautions to ensure the safety of all clients, families, and staff as the situation progresses.

Clients and families coming to Ideas for Independent Living Inc. can expect some changes when they arrive, in comparison to what they may be accustomed to. All precautions and measures implemented by Ideas for Independent Living Inc. have been put into place to ensure the safety of everyone in our community. To facilitate this process, we have developed a set of guidelines and procedures.

What precautions are being taken at Ideas For Independent Living Inc.?

Active Screening: All of our visitors are required to be screened before entering the building. We will be asking all entrants a series of questions about their health and travel history. Those with symptoms of any type may be re-directed. Please account for extra time during your visit to allow for screening upon arrival.

Masking Policy: Ideas for Independent Living Inc. (Ideas FIL Inc.) has implemented a masking policy to further protect our community from potential exposure to COVID-19. Masks and gloves can be provided if needed. If a client, caregiver, or visitor is unable to wear a mask for health reasons, please contact us before your visit so that we can make the appropriate preparations and discuss alternative options.

Individuals who are required to wear a mask while onsite include:

Employees at all times while interacting with clients and caregivers.
All staff, clients, and family caregivers when unable to maintain 2 metres (6 feet) of physical distancing.

Designated Area: A separate entrance and assessment area has been designated for all client interactions. It is found at the rear of our building. It is sanitized after each use and is only for client services. We ask that clients and their caregivers stay within this area and only use the designated entrance.

Clean and Sanitize: We have reviewed our housekeeping and cleaning procedures to look for any places in our business that may not be regularly sanitized. We are encouraging our employees to regularly wipe down shared spaces and have set aside additional resources and time during closing hours to sanitize all equipment, surfaces, or otherwise that employees or clients may come in contact with.

Hand sanitizing stations have been set up in the designated area, at entrances, and at workstations. We strongly encourage their use. All equipment entering or leaving the premises will be disinfected. We ask that visitors attempt to do so with their own hardware before arrival.

Social Distancing: Social distancing is one of the best methods for preventing the spread of COVID-19, and we at Ideas FIL Inc are promoting this behavior by changing our regular policies, practices, and schedules. We are encouraging our clients and employees to follow similar patterns. If possible, we ask that you maintain 2 metres (6 feet) of distance.

Virtual Care: To support families during the pandemic, we have moved to alternative means such as by phone or virtual care where possible. At Ideas FIL Inc., we are carefully planning how and when we can expand the number of client visits that we can make available on site, as well as those that we will offer virtually or otherwise. Throughout this process safety for out clients, caregivers, and staff is priority. We are also coordinating with our regional and provincial planning partners in the health, education, and community sectors.

As the situation continues to unfold, we may be required to modify information covered in this document. We greatly appreciate your understanding and co-operation with these new policies. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions please do not hesitate to contact us.
